3 Web3 UX Tips: Turning User Friction into Engagement

User Experience (UX) is often overlooked in Web3 projects. Yet, a stellar UX is crucial, especially in the DeFi world, where complexity can turn new users away. Whether you’re targeting crypto-native DeFi users, TradFi professionals, or newcomers to Web3, focusing on UX/UI in DeFi isn’t an add-on, it’s a prerequisite for scale.

We’ve recently hosted an engaging UX audit workshop with Ben and Thiti, co-founders of Braille Studio. With experience serving ecosystems like Avalanche, Polkadot, Base, Starknet, and clients like Thailand’s Betasa exchange, Braille Studio has built products that simplify complex user journeys while boosting key performance metrics.

Here are 3 actionable UX insights shared during our session with them.

1. Consistency Beats Complexity

When users explore a new DeFi platform, they subconsciously compare it to platforms they already understand. Any inconsistency or deviation without clear reasoning creates friction.

Tip: If your project uses unique terminology or features, ensure they’re clearly explained right where users encounter them, not hidden deep in documentation.

2. Clear Action Steps Drive User Confidence

Web3 applications are often packed with options and functionalities. If users don’t clearly understand their next steps, hesitation creeps in, and trust wanes.

Tip: Define clear primary and secondary actions. Guide users explicitly through each step with intuitive cues.

3. Design for Anticipation, Not Just Reaction

Great UX is proactive, it anticipates user needs and prepares the UI accordingly. Users shouldn’t have to connect their wallets or go deep into your app to understand potential outcomes.

Tip: Allow users to interact with simulations or previews before connecting wallets or finalizing transactions.

By aligning UX designs to intuitive mental models, clarifying user actions, and proactively designing for user anticipation, Web3 projects can significantly improve engagement and user satisfaction.

Final thoughts

UX/UI in DeFi isn’t window dressing. It’s signal. It tells users: “This protocol respects your time, your capital, and your trust.” Startups that prioritize UX early gain not only adoption, but retention.
